Grass species composition in tropical forest of southern India
نویسندگان
چکیده
Grass composition was assessed by plot method (1 m2; n= 1,749) in three habitats (dry deciduous-DDF, moist deciduous-MDF, and thorn forest-TF) at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, southern India across different seasons from Jan 2004 to Dec 2007. The grass species richness availability (per cent composition) varied significantly with habitats. Seventy-four of grasses sedges were recorded all habitats, a few common positively influenced precipitation. Among biotic factors, regeneration shrub density had primary influence on availability, followed herb, sedge weed density. principal coordinate analysis revealed seven major associations the tropical forest. There considerable changes association when compared past. Fire resistant such as Themeda triandra, Heteropogan contortus T. cymbaria dominated DDF. Aristida/Eragorstis TF, which considered indicators heavy grazing pressure. that reported rare sporadic earlier study not recorded, emphasizes better pasture management threatened invasion weeds.

Directional changes in the species composition of a tropical forest.
Long-term studies have revealed that the structure and dynamics of many tropical forests are changing, but the causes and consequences of these changes remain debated. To learn more about the forces driving changes within tropical forests, we investigated shifts in tree species composition over the past 25 years within the 50-ha Forest Dynamics Plot on Barro Colorado Island (BCI), Panama, and e...
متن کاملForest structure and species composition along a successional gradient of Lowland Atlantic Forest in Southern Brazil
The Lowland Forest is one of the most disturbed and fragile ecosystems in the Atlantic Forest biome, yet little is known regarding its successional trajectory and resilience. We evaluated changes in species assemblages and forest structure of the canopy and understory along a successional gradient (young 21-yrs old forest, immature 34-yrs old forest and late successional 59-yrs old forest) aimi...
متن کاملEcosystem impacts of disturbance in a dry tropical forest in southern India
Indian forests provide a multitude of services to vast populations. Common human activities including livestock grazing, fuelwood extraction and burning have the potential to impact forest ecosystem structure and function. The effects of these activities on vegetation, ecology and soil properties were investigated in Bandipur National Park (BNP) in southern India. Data were collected from 200 s...
متن کاملEffect of tree host species on fungal community composition in a tropical rain forest in Panama
To determine whether host species influence the composition of fungal communities, the ascomycetes and basidiomycetes present on three tree species (Prioria copaifera (Fabaceae), Quararibea asterolepis (Bombacaceae), and Trichilia tuberculata (Meliaceae)) were sampled on the 50-ha Forest Dynamics Project plot in lowland moist tropical forest on Barro Colorado Island, Panama. The most abundant f...
متن کاملTracking Seed Fates of Tropical Tree Species: Evidence for Seed Caching in a Tropical Forest in North-East India
Rodents affect the post-dispersal fate of seeds by acting either as on-site seed predators or as secondary dispersers when they scatter-hoard seeds. The tropical forests of north-east India harbour a high diversity of little-studied terrestrial murid and hystricid rodents. We examined the role played by these rodents in determining the seed fates of tropical evergreen tree species in a forest s...
